The last people you want to know anything about your mental health in the US is your insurance company. Sad but true. Because typically an insurance company contracts out to a "behavioural health management company" and pays a lower lifetime cap on everything.
Don't violate your privacy rights by giving anything to your insurance company they don't already know. I know this for a fact because I'm glad to have HIPAA insurance but I was rejected by same said company for an application for private insurance because I was "honest" and put "depression" down on it (essentially you have to self-criminalize yourself on any insurance application or any company, including the required HIPAA act providal can reject you.)
I now have insurance that costs more but at least if I get into a massive medical injury, I am covered to X million dollars, the only real reason these days to have insurance in our country.
