prozac wellbutrin

Posted by Mix6 on August 30, 2006, at 23:00:27

Hi- I need to talk about this...

I was on Wellbutrin for a few months, which worked really well (coinciding with a 3wk vacation from work, so much less stimulus and stress to deal with) for a while, then I sorta came back down again... my doc also did lower the dosage to barely anything (75mg) like a month later after starting my meds when I said I was feeling better, then I started feeling worse... when I mentioned that she raised it again a tiny bit, and 2wks later and no better was going to switch me to prozac. but first I asked her to raise it again to the level we used before because with so much change it would be difficult to isolate the variable (ie. meds) that was helping. And I'd heard that meds take a bit longer than a week or 2 to kick in and I was willing to be patient...? She raised it to 150mg.

2wks later and much worse again she decided I was bipolar bc I have "fast cycles" (although there was only one bIG one really, feeling better then progressively worse.. with better days and worse days in between). So she switched me to prozac and depakote/depakene. I was wary of her diagnosis after reading up on it... and of what seemed like her tendency to go on whim. I'm not excluding the possibility that I may be hypomanic -- I don't think so because I just remember myself with a generally laid back, optimistic personality to begin with; always kinda slow n easy like a surfer stoner rather than a peppy cheerleader with mood swings (just using imagery to explain my personality) -- but anyway I decided to just take the prozac and see how that goes first. I figured I'm not suicidal so I can handle trying this treatment first without numbing myself to the world unnecessarily.

I HATE having to second-guess my doctor and try to adjust medications on my own so I'm going to try to find another doc for a second opinion. I'd rather relax and feel I am in good hands.

ANYway I'm battling, battling... and while I may be a bit better than I was 3 months ago, I hate these prozac side effects. But I suppose I'll keep taking it and see how it goes- it's only been a week and a half.

Has anyone gone on a drug, started doing much better, and come down a few months later? Did you stick to it or try something else? (esp if you had a doc that took u down off of something that was working a month and a half later..? i'm kinda angry at that...)

Or has anyone combined Prozac and Wellbutrin? Would like to offset the lethargy, lack of sexual interest, weakness... I'll end up waiting for 4-6wks or so hoping these side effects go away (i'm assuming the headaches will) but I'm at that downpoint when I'm questioning everything and can't bear the thought of another week, 2, or 3 feeling like this. Let alone another day... ugh!!!!! oh well just need to get through this... Tomorrow might be a better day. i hope i hope i hope :( i'm sooo tired already of battling and hoping for the right drug cocktail... i wish this weren't such an arbitrary science.

Thoughts on Wellbutrin / Prozac and dosage would be much appreciated... thanks.
