I think this is a characteristic of most (if not all) SSRIs--not just Paxil.

When I was on Prozac, it numbed my emotions, plus I constantly craved alcohol. Even worse, it reduced my tolerance by about two thirds. Fortunately I wasn't suicidal, because the lack of emotion combined with the ability to get completely hammered on 6 beers would be incredibly dangerous for anyone who is.

I think anyone starting on an SSRI should be monitored very carefully, especially if they are younger and/or suicidal.
