Cymbalta was, by far, the best modern reuptake inhibitor-type med I've taken. Which isn't to say it was perfect. It didn't help my anxiety but it was good for depression, especially the motivation part. Probably the norepinephrine component. I had almost no side effects (some increase sweating noticeable only in the warmest summer months; dizziness lasting about 1 week when starting). It reduced my depression to the point of remission, which was kind of amazing and hadn't happened before or since.
I did really well on 60mg Cymbalta + 20mg Buspar.
This worked for about 6 mos, then pooped out. NOO!!! Increased Buspar up to 60mg but that did nothing, increased Cymbalta to 120mg but got intolerable urinary retention, dizziness, and tiredness. Did some more augmentation (amitriptyline, Wellbutrin, Provigil), none of it worked and I just felt worse and worse.
The past few months I've been cycling through other meds to find one that would actually work for my depression, and now I'm finally taking the leap into MAOI waters (Parnate). Best of luck, I think it is a good drug.
