This is most prominently seen in recent literature. However, Zyprexa demonstrated antidepressant properties very early in its usage. In my experience, I found Zyprexa and Risperdal to be superior to Seroquel as an adjunct to antidepressants. I wonder sometimes if there isn't a bandwagon that investigators hop onto.
Right now I take Abilify. It is a much cleaner drug once you get past the first two weeks. Anxiety, restlessness, and insomnia are common startup side effects, but they usually disappear.
In defense of Seroquel, I will say that I know someone for whom it has a pronounced antidepressant effect when combined with Wellbutrin.
