This came up for me, recently, because my new pdoc says that co-occurring depression and anxiety *is usually* bipolar. My T -- and all the other pdocs I've ever seen -- says that I'm definitely not bipolar. I don't think I'm bipolar. But after exploring it in my head, I came to the conclusion that if adding a mood stabilizer to my AD would improve my response, then hand it over! As long as your pdoc is respectful, not trying to force you to take something which doesn't work well or causes too many side effects for you, then the only down side is you might find that you feel better and have more consistent energy.
Good luck.
