Calming down or blocking excess activity is what the APs do. But you can get that with other things too. The benzodiazepines might be worth looking at...a lot cheaper and safer...some would warn about the addiction thing...but hey, getting off an AP is no picnic either.
Naturally, you could easily try from a health food store a supplement with GABA, glycine, taurine, and inositol. They work in concert to calm down excess activity. I saw some today. If that would work, and it certainly could, you would know in just a day or two and it would cost very little to try it.
I only mention these choices because they can work, and because I sense that you would like to get relief without going the AP route. After a short trial of a benzo and then a GABA/glycine/taurine combo, you could always revert back to the APs.
