Well here’s my opinion for what it’s worth. Alcohol is classified as a depressant. I’ve found that if I have a few beers (I’m a cheap drunk) that I feel emotionally worse the next day. I’ve heard other people on this board mention this as well. With alcohol and any other type of drug of abuse, it’s like a peak and valley. The chemical changes in your brain make you feel better than normal when you are indulging, that’s the peak, but when it wears off other changes occur in your brain that make you feel worse than normal, so you want more of the alcohol to make you feel better.
I know this might sound a bit harsh, but I really have trouble with some of the posts I see that start out “Is it ok to take (name your poison) with (name your current med)”. You have to stop the substance abuse or you don’t stand a snowballs chance in hell of your mental health improving. The stuff that initially made you fell better is now just aggravating the problem. It’s the emotional up and down that you get that is unstabilizing and making your meds ineffective.
I with you well in this hell we share,
