Hi everybody,
I've decided as of yesterday to replace the DLPA (that I've been taking with 5mg Selegiline HCL) with Wellbutrin SR. The DLPA was causing too much anxiety and didn't seem to impart any benefits.
In response to Ktemene's regimand, I added 150mg Wellbutrin SR yesterday morning to the 5mg Selegiline HCL I've been taking for two weeks and noticed a very nice "pick me up". More energy, social ease, percieved charisma, confidence etc... Adding Wellbutrin seems much smoother than the DLPA. Smoother meaning less anxiety.
I took another 150mg Wellbutrin SR before bedtime last night as I didn't have any negative side effects during the day. I slept ok, and got my 10 hours in that I was looking for, due to trying to get out of a sleep debt from the weekend. I only got 5-6 hours sleep a night for 3 days, which I don't respond very well to. I'm one of those people that need 8-9 hours in order to function properly. Wellbutrin never affected my sleep poorly in the past though, which I figure is highly atypical compared to other's responses on this board.
Increasing the dosage so early may not have been a wonderful strategy but as one person put it so suscinctly in an earlier post, some of us have the "patience of a fruit flys". :)
Next week I am going to request low dose Lithium augmentation in order to further "solidify my gains". I tend to have very choppy responses to AD's with lots of poopout, and am figuring adding a little Lithium will help keep me euthymic and smooth me out.
Another option is to go back on lower dose Parnate and add Lithium to see how that goes. I'm sure it's more conventional. I'll have to see what my pdoc says.
Parnate ended up pooping out on me after a months time or so. Mild sexual dysfunction, emotional flatness, and hypoglycemia were causing me problems. Initially though I had a very robust response, which some may attest to from my earlier posts. The diet was a joke. After much experimentation I realized I could eat whatever I wanted without it affecting my blood pressure much, even at a dosage of 100mg a day.
Caveat Emptor: Kids don't try this at home. Tyramine reactions are highly individual according to what I've read. I'm sure I may be an anomaly. Tap beer, old cheddar cheese, soya sauce, and sausages, didn't cause any major increase in my blood pressure. Prehaps 10/20 points increase at the most for my systolic, to a maximum of 140. I was extremely careful at the beginning though and adhered to the MAOi diet to a "T".
