Positive data for insomnia drug
Ramelteon, a drug under investigation in the US for the treatment of insomnia, has been shown to help adults fall asleep faster and sleep for longer. The trial involved 405 adults receiving ramelteon 8mg or 16mg or placebo each night for 35 nights. Improved sleep patterns were seen after one week. The drug works by targeting two receptors in the brain, MT1 and MT2.
The data were presented at a meeting of the Associated Professional Sleep Societies last month.
