He then proceeds to diagnose me as having ADHD and Bipolar I, two disorders that have never come up in my six years of therapy. Next thing I know I'm off Paxil and Lamictal and on a regimen of some kind of vitamins, Depakote, Risperdal, and Strattera. Over the next couple of days I became increasingly confused and disoriented, was given Haldol and told I would not be discharged until the following week. It seemed like noone, aside from my roommate, thought it was possible the change in medication could be the problem. They even sent me to a neurologist. Finally, the doctor took me off of the Strattera and the fog started to lift. When I was discharged I stopped taking the Risperdal, went back to see my old psychiatrist and was put on Paxil again. Once I'm stable on Nardil, I'm considering replacing the Depakote with Lamictal since depression is the primary issue. Obviously I'll have to see whether or not my pdoc thinks it's a good idea.
