Hello Maxine : )
No my doctor doesn't know, but I havent started taking both together yet..
I think as for helping with depression, the trileptal is the best for that with also providing a mild anti-manic effect, I can sleep well and anxiety isn't so bad.
The tegretol I guess just provides a far stronger anti-manic effect also helps with anxiety too with the extra sedation.
Your right about asking the pharmacist, I was hoping ed might be able to offer some advice too lol.
Yep I get my blood levels checked and everything seems ok.
Basically this started because I was taking tegretol for about a month @ 200mg a day. (i get prescribed quite low doses of drugs) It seemed to be making me a little depressed though, so I went and saw my psychiatrist and changed over to Trileptal - which was great for my mood...but i started to get kidney pains. So back I go to the doctor and start with Tegretol again!
The thing is while I was waiting to get the prescription for the Tegretol the kidney pains seemed to easing up whilst i was still taking the trileptal...lol..i feel like an idiot I much prefer taking the Trileptal as its so much better for my mood and now im back on tegretol which is making me feel more depressed!
Am I right in thinking you take Trileptal? what dose do you take and how do you like it as a mood stabiliser?
I found it the best out of all of them if it wasn't for the kidney thing..I can see myself going back to it, but because I take such low doses I just wondered how it'd be taking them together eg 100mg teg and 150mg tri.
Kind regards
Nick
