SSRI/Weight Gain/Fish Oil solution?

Posted by sushinutz on April 18, 2005, at 10:35:34

Hi! I'm new to this message board and have a problem. I've been taking 10 mg of Lexapro for almost 3 years. During the past several months, I noticed a weight gain of 16 lbs. without a significant change in eating habits. I run 50-60 miles per week and have been doing this for several years. Since Sept. 2004, I managed to drop 6 lbs. of the unwanted gain, but now seem to be at a plateau. It is very frustrating because I am hyperattentive to what I eat and those extra 10 lbs are slowing me down!! I can only conclude it is indeed the Lexapro. My doctor, of course, is unsympathetic, but ran some blood tests to make sure it wasn't a thyroid problem. He swears I must be eating more. Please tell me who gains weight on 2500 calories a day accompanied by a 7-9 mile run with a nice 10-12 miler on Sundays? Apart from discontinuing Lexapro, what can I do? I was wondering if anybody has experimented with taking 3-6 grams of fish oil per day in conjunction with an SSRI for weight loss. Thanks so much in advance!!
