Sometimes an AP can augment an antidepressant. The mechanism for this is complicated but probably due to the 5-ht2a blocakde of the atypicals. (Ie the typicals are rarely used for augmentation purposes)

Anyhow, sometimes the drug can cause other problems. Being apathy etc. I found that 2.5 mg of zyprexa did augment effexor but more than that left me a complete zombie.
