Sorry Racer if my post was not entirely clear. What I meant was that if you were in really bad shape, or needed a referral, a hospital could admit you and help you get medicaid if you qualified, or refer you to a mental health clinic where they base what you pay on income. I know one of the pdocs I saw, took medicaid pts and they only paid $3 a visit. I was behind one at his office when they paid. If you are of danger to yourself or others either psychiatrically or medically, an ER is obligated to tx you regardless of money. The private psych hospital does indeed require insurance or self-pay.
