> > Hi, I've been on Remeron for over 3 years. I've tried to get off of it several times, with no success. When I try to go off of it I get the worst insomnia and nothing seems to help it much. I've tried Ambien and I get a few hours of light sleep. After a week or so of this I give up and go back on the R. I was on a combo of Celexa and Remeron which worked great for me. Since I've gone off the Celexa, I notice that Remeron alone makes me really irritable and angry and to top it off, I don't always sleep great. I saw a post on here where someone had insomnia for 8 months while getting off Remeron. I can't do that and hold down a job, etc. Anybody out there have any thoughts or ideas about this dilemma? Thx.

I haven't had any in abt 3 weeks and I too, have had to worse case of insomia that I have ever experienced! I am taking Ambien now with little help. I think I need to be on an anti-depressant, but the remeron makes me gain too much weight and is the main reason I stopped taking it. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get some z's without becoming addicted to sleeping pills? I'm getting desperate and almost tempted to go back on the remeron.

Better to be addicted to Ambien than Remeron, I think. From what I've heard, Ambien isn't that difficult to get off of. Withdrawal only lasts a couple of days, instead of months. I'm in my third month of Remeron withdrawal and finally have my appetite back. The sleeping is taking longer to come back though. I definitely need the Ambien to get any sleep at all, and even that isn't great. I also went back on a lower dose of Celexa to alleviate some of the withdrawal symptoms and once in awhile I take a tiny bit of Remeron which seems to put me out for the night. However, I'm trying to cut back on even that since I really want to be completely off of it. What a crazy med merry-go-round!

I hope this helps. I know some people use trazadone to get to sleep, but for me it was very activating. Good luck!
