7 days, if you:
*start on very low doses of Parnate (a quarter pill, i.e. 2.5mg, taken twice a day) and taper up gradually over a week
*purchase a home blood pressure monitor and stop taking Parnate if it spikes too high
*have some nifedipine or captopril on hand to take if blood pressure rises to hypertensive crisis levels
