happy3, please go to my thread regarding withdraw, when.if you are ready to come off the med, it doesnt have to be hell. I can't say much for the long term affects, I was on it for about 2-2 1/2 years. My biggest side effects, which was the same as paxil, was no motivation, slept all the time and no sex drive. My thread about withdraw starts at" renee tapering off effexor". There is hope and everyone is different. Renee
