Actually redscarlet since I wrote that post I think I have figured out that it is *hyopglycemia* instead of hyperglycemia.
Geodon carries a bigger warning for hyperglycemia, but if you look in the insert hypoglycemia is listed as a rare side-effect.
The reason I thought it was hyper is that I have lost about 12lbs. since I began taking Geodon. Unexplained weight loss can be a symptom of hyperglycemia. I usually remain stable at about 175lbs., but now I weigh about 160 to 162lbs. I cannot explain this.
I seem to have a little anxiety for about the last five days right before a meal.
When I eat I get better for just a little bit, and then another rush of worsening anxiety comes over me. I have experimented by eating sugars, and the anxiety is much worse when I do. Thats the problem with a hypoglycemia attack. You need sugars to raise the blood sugar back into a normal range, but eating the sugar stimulates the pancreas to overproduce insulin.Insulin drives the blood sugar down again, and the plummeting blood sugar causes panic and anxiety. So, in effect if you eat sugar containing food all day your body is on a sort of roller coaster. I am pretty sure I have this, because I've experimented and I can send myself through the roof with anxiety a little after I eat sugar containing products, and then I will get OK after an hour or two. I am not too happy with this, because Geodon works for some of my symptoms.
Also I became sleepy around the clock after about two months on Geodon. It is a weird kind of drowsiness. Like the kind where you're awake but not. I still have mental energy and I don't sleep all day, but I'm drowsy. I've been trying to figure out what it could be since I'm on such low dose of Geodon. Since then I've learned that drowsiness can be a symptom of hypoglycemia.
I am going to into my doctor next week to have fasting blood glucose tests to see for sure. Hope this helps and let me know how you're doing. I'll be anxious to know if Geodon has given you this as well.
