As things got worse, I called her last Thurs and asked if she would prescribe me something before my mid-January appointment. She called me back Friday at 5pm when I was at my office (an open cubicle with no privacy). She said she wanted to try Celexa, and since I couldn't really ask questions at the time and I was too impatient to wait until Monday, I said ok. I then looked it up and saw that Lexapro is the newer version of Celexa that is supposed to have less side effects. Since my last med was dropped due to side effects, I wondered why she'd prescribe Celexa over Lexapro. Does anyone know if there are other benefits (besides cost) to Celexa? It may be a cost-insurance thing, but wondered if there was a nicer answer.

Celexa has some antihistamine effects that Lexapro doesn't. So you might get some added sedative effects which might be helpful for sleep and anxiety.
