I have never taken the CR version, but I did take Paxil in the past. It worked wonders for anxiety, but it did take a few weeks to kick in. I used to be a real "wart" (as in worry wart) before Paxil. I would worry from the minute I got up in the morning until I was able to fall asleep at night. The worrying subsided significantly once the Paxil started working.
One thing I heard that is supposed to be effective for constant worrying is putting an elastic band around your wrist. Whenever you start worrying about something, give the band a snap (it will hurt a bit). Apparently, the constant snapping, and the thought of the pain it will cause, can help put on end to the constant worrying. Another thing is self-talk. For instance, is what you are worrying about reasonable, rational, likely to happen, likely to change, etc. Telling yourself, over and over again, that it is not worth worrying about can help change your mind set. You might want to look into Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), if you are not already doing something. You can actually get a book by Dr. David Burns called "The Feeling Good Handbook" which provides the tools and exercises to practice CBT at home at your own pace. It is not an expensive book, and would really be an investment in your own mental and emotional health.
Good luck to you. I know how awful it feels to be worrying non-stop, day in and day out.
Take good care of yourself.
