MAOs and Ultram together?

Posted by ZenTen on November 29, 2004, at 11:01:35

Hi, I've recently been asking questions on here regarding Nardil/Parnate,as my psych is going to most likely be putting me on it in a week. Currently, I am only taking Ultram/tramadol at 50mgs TID, for pain and Ambien as well as Seroquel 25 mgs or Zyprexa 2.5 for sleep. I've been on this med for a long time. Incidentally, Ultram also helps quite a bit with my depression on it's own! More so than any AD with no side-effects! Though its effects have waned after 7 months of use.

I know that Demerol is seriously contraindicated with any MAO and other opiods seem ok in half doses. Ultram, as far as I am aware has slight opiod properties, as well as low serotonin and norephinpherine binding and is somewhat similar to Effexor chemically. This in itself seems to makes it a big no no, to take with Nardil or Parnate.

I havent seen any literature on taking the 2 together.

Does anyone know anything about this or does anyone take Ultram/tramdol and an MAO together, or have any experience with it?
