The amygdala in schitsophrenia is very overactive.
Some emotions that oftentimes are very strong in schitsophrenics are "fear" and "responsability".
Oftentimes delusions begin as fears and insecurities. The brain tries very hard to
understand its fears and sometimes will
create connections from nothing. One theory is that there is an overactivity of BDNF (a nerve growth factor), so that new memories and ideas are forming faster than the sensory input can provide. This overactive growth facotor enables strong connections to be made from loose and tangential ideas. Ie the brain is trying to assign more and more meaning to less and less.
