In reply to Starting CYMBALTA tomorrow...ugh, posted by jerrympls on October 21, 2004, at 23:40:58
If you responded at all to Effexor, Cymbalta may be your friend. I've been taking it for about two months now, and while I can't say it's done much for the depression, it's great for chronic pain, and it hasn't caused nearly as many problems for me as Effexor did at first. In fact, right down to the lack of antidepressant response, it's been like a friendlier version of Effexor for me so far.
I have been following your story, Jerry, and I wish you the best. If I have to stick around -- and I'm told that I must -- you can do no less. Dreadful as it is to contemplate trying yet another drug, Cymbalta is not nearly as problematic as the others I've tried, in terms of start up problems, and I'd bet that it would work very well for partial responders to Effexor.
And, as someone who's had problems with doctors in the past year, WHOOHOO! Yippee! Good for you, for firing your pdoc! You'd fire a plumber who failed to fix your toilet, surely you deserve at least the same level of competance in your mental health professionals? After all, I personally value my brain more than I value my toilet, you know?
Good luck, and be well.
