Hi greyson:
I agree with your pdoc., because Wellbutrin is 'not' a good anti-depressant if you're suffering from major form of depression.
The Prozac is one of the 'greatest' anti-depressants in this Earth. However, Prozac is also one of 'SSRIs' that mostly likely produces 'manic.' For this reason, your pdoc. is very cautious NOT to get you into hypomanic state. In the hypomanic state, Bpers are able to do 'over-productive activities.’ However, in a negative side of the hypomanic state, it causes 'havoc,' such as 'spending a lot of money,' 'hypersexuality,' even 'dysphoric'(rage), other annoying symptoms. All of those are quite dangerous to people around you and yourself as well.
In this regard, Effexor is not quite 'SSRIs,' and has a good reputation among Bpers due to good effectiveness. Although, unfortunately I have no tolerance on Effexor, I truly recommend you to take Effexor, ... not Prozac at this moment. If you would find Effexor ineffective, you could switch to other anti-depressant any time later. After seeing you on Effexor, he/she making a plan which med. is sutiatble to your condition since most of Bpers ... not only ‘feeling well,’ but ‘functionability,’ such as going to work, school and raising children. I, myself have been on four different meds., Lithium, Zyprexa and two anti-depressants and doing fairly well. BTW, my personal story,... in ‘hypomanic state,’ I took four ‘difficult classes’ in the college and only found myself ‘a failure.’ Then, it’s dangerous to get ‘hypomanic,’ because it leads you ‘false sense.’
Here is a good article about Effexor:

Please write me back how you're doing on Effexor.
