Phenobarbitone was used for this condition. Cant say whether it is still used today [dependency issues]. Primidone [precursor to the above mentioned] is also used. People afflicted with benign essential tremor are especially sensitive to Phenobarbitone and Primidone, so doses are initiated at the low end and worked upward. Propanolol is also used and so is metoprolol for persons who cannot tolerate Beta-2 blockade effects [asthma].

Since clonidine decreases sympathetic outflow it may also be considered.....The antimuscarinic agents such as Trihexyphenidyl, Benzatropine, Bepiriden, Procyclidine and orphendadrine could be tried in refractory patients.
