Gabitril with Lamictal for Bipolar and PTSD

Posted by sirena_lupin on August 22, 2004, at 21:34:50

Hi...

After some research on side effects and my options for treatment, I started Lamictal for rapid cycling Bipolar II disorder last week. In addition, I was given a prescription for Gabitril for anxiety, panic attacks, flashbacks, nightmares, insomnia... etc. stemming from PTSD. I read somewhere that Lamictal's effectiveness is easily compromised by other drugs. Is Gabitril one of these drugs?

Furthermore, can anyone provide any information as to the possibility of cognitive side effects from either of these drugs? My doctor didn't mention any but, after some reading, a few questions came to mind.

I haven't taken any psych meds for over two years and am hesitant to start again. Every other psych med I've tried has produced an adverse reaction of one kind or another. I would like to have all of the facts on these drugs before I get in too deep.

Thanks.
