In reply to TOO many AD'S...scared to change!!!!!!!!!, posted by Luddy on August 13, 2004, at 12:14:23
Hi:
On 'XL' that is 'extended release' version, ... almost 24 hours effect while on 'SR' is 12 hours effect(I just can't get 'tech' words for this, ... but that's what it means, ..).
When I switched to the 300 mg., ... the 100 mg.WB SR t.i.d., it made me 'fragmental sleep pattern,' not sleep well, like a half sleep and a half awake. Then, my pdoc. rxed 'XL' 300 mg. once a day,... taking it with breakfast. However, after having read other takers' posts, I truly started to hesitate to change it, as seeing 'sleep pattern' more exasperated. Probably, its side-effects(including tinnitus) go with this.I had 'tinnitus' in the beginning of WB therapy, but after two-three wks later, it calmed it down. Once, I had 'rapid heart rate.' However, over the years on WB sr, I NEVER experience any of S.E.s as long as I stay on 200 mg-300 mg's range. I, too love this med., due to 'energy,' 'concentration,' and more lists to go on. In my case, I've been on 200 mg. WB sr. mainly for my 'ADD' which is a part of my depression. Before M.I., I never had 'concentration' problem.
In regard to 'Zoloft,' ... in my guess, your pdoc. believed that Zoloft is more suitable to your condition as seeing your symptoms are more related to depression, rather than to ADD's. Further, WB sr is more effective to those who need for 'ADD' related problems. In my knowledge, most of pdocs. rarely rx WB sr alone for depressive patients.
Similar meds. to WB sr is more likely 'Strattra' that has good effectiveness both on ADD and depressive episodes. Two more meds. I recall, but the above/Strattra is most similar to WB sr.
