In reply to what LAMICTAL dose provides antidepressant effects, posted by bipolarspectrum on July 24, 2004, at 22:16:35
I have been on Lamictal for almost 3 years. I took 400 mg per day up until last week.
The lamictal was described to me by my P-Doc as a "rocket booster" to all anti-depresants he put me on.
I tried every AD there was in SSRI and the other new ones and ADHD stimulent drugs with no help to my depression and fatigue.
The lamictal at 400 mg help me from bottoming out. By itself it kept me from slipping in to a deep depression.
Finally after 3 years my P-doc said lets try the new Wellbutrin XL right when it came out. I was skeptical because the Wellbutrin SR was the second drig I took 3 years ago and not only did it smell like rotten eggs but it felt like drinking 100 cups of coffee.
Well I lucked out Wellbutrin XL was the answer to my prayors and gave me my life back.
So now I had decisions to make with lamictal. Now that I had all this excess energy I noticed Lamictal did make me a little drowsey. I dont think i noticed it before because I was already in a funky drowsey depression hence it just kept me from dipping further.
I then start taking Lamictal at night, which made me sleep much better.
This then substanitaes to me why lamictal helps the Bi-Polar people supress their highs.
I then try to quit lamictal cold turky and it places me in a depression. So now I am reducing 100 mg every 2 weeks. So far I have dropped 100 mg of the 400 for 1 week now and I have not seen any bad effects.
I want to get off lamictal because I believe I need to test rather I need the drug or not. I believe that with this new life from Wellbutrin I will not need lamictal anymore. Less meds in is less cause and effect to manager later in my book!
