hi Mom,
welcome to the wonderful world of Lexapro! For me, taking the Lex at bedtime helped me sleep and got rid of the balloon-y feelings that happened when I took it in the morning.Everyone's a little different, so your effects will be slightly unique.
Also, I have read that although Lex should really start working at 2 weeks, most people take way longer than 2 wks to fully adjust to this (or any other) SSRI. Sometimes it can take up to 12 weeks for the drug to fully meld with your system. At that point you can start to know which side effects are going to be permanent and which are transient.
Lexapro helped me. Hopefully it is helping you too!
JenStar> Hi. I am new to this board and I have been taking Lexapro for about three weeks, for a major depression (although it seems clear now, in retrospect, I have suffered mild depression for most of my life). This is my first anti-depressant, so I have no idea what to expect. The first two weeks on Lexapro brought an odd parade of side effects, most of which only lasted a day or two. But for the last six days I have been feeling incredibly drowsy, spacey, balloon-headish for about eight hours after I take the pill (actually half pill--5 mg). Then things clear up and I feel pretty good (more clear and centered) until I go to bed. My question: is this a side effect that also might pass? Or at 3 weeks am I into the more permanent effects of the drug? (Dr. said it takes two weeks to feel the effects.) I'm having a hard time focusing during those eight hours, which isn't good for my kids, my work, or frankly my feelings about myself! Thanks.
