I hated depakote, it made my body feel dirty and my mind feel totally clouded, and caused me weight gain practically overnight. There are much better alternatives - trileptal, lamictal, tegretol - all sorts of newer generation anti-convulsants that I would research and ask your doc about. I went in research in hand and absolutely refused to take depakote or lithium.
