To All Parnate/Nardil/Marplan (MAOI) users

Posted by cubbybear on May 29, 2004, at 2:10:10

Last night, I took a chance and tried Neurontin for neuropathic pain from shingles (and consequent insomnia) on top of my regular MAOI Parnate. My pdoc said that he had no other patients who had tried this combination. The patient insert sheets for Parnate and Neurontin showed NO contraindications about this combination. Our regular poster, Ilene, who takes Marplan said that she's had no problems combining it with Neurontin. But I was still a bit nervous. I took 300 mg. Neurontin at about 10 P.M. and had no adverse reactions at all. I got a great night's sleep with some drowsiness when I awoke on Sat. at 7:30 A.M. Felt much better and the pain from the shingles (herpes zoster) is gone today so hopefully, this horrid infection is over(am taking valaciclovir for that).
But at least I now know--and Ilene has confirmed it--that Neurontin definitely seems to be safe with an MAOI.
