Finally he just said take a miltown, and shut up. Had never heard of it before, but it worked. I heard it has barbiturate-like actions, exept not as toxic.

> How does anyone one know why it didnt stay around?hello there, chemist here....miltown is quite an effective anxiolytic, and it is my guess that the side-effects/potential for addiction (the latter being questionable, from what i have read) were the reason why benzodiazepines came to the scene, which were regarded as superior to miltown. it is a carbamate derivative, as is the insecticide carbaryl, and to the best of my knowledge, exerts anxiolytic effects via a different pathway than inhibition of GABA reuptake and/or increased GABA production. just my opinion, but i would take as needed and look for something with a less-homologous molecular profile than an insecticide, if your anxiety perseveres. and i do not think there was a conspiracy among drug companies for the ``almighty $$$'' on this one, it appears to simply be a case of a safer class of drugs with less hepatic impairment having come on the market....all the best, chemist
