sorry I just noticed you've posted earlier about your trials with different meds. Depakote has been an excellent anti-manic med for me, unfortunately I do get depressed from it. My manic episodes are the most dangerous aspect of my disorder so my docs treat them and once I'm stable I get off the depakote. The key (for me) is knowing when to start taking it- I do love my hypomanic episodes, and have to realize the trouble they cause when I slide into mania. I only take APs when I am psychotic, I have too many negative side effects. I realize the way I use meds is most certainly not for everyone, unfortunately I am the 'most treatment resistant bipolar patient' any of my pdocs have dealt with.
