I don't quite understand if what they're talking about means a launch of a generic Zoloft might be imminent or will wait until 2006. I assume that it is imminent because a generic version of Paxil is already available, and I believe Paxil was introduced in the same era as Zoloft (~1992).

Wellbutrin SR is just starting to become available as a generic, with various generic manufacturers shipping product. IMO, this is the reason for the development of the XL version and Glaxo's heavy marketing of it (the XL does allow once a day dosing rather than the twice a day of the SR--it can be argued this is of some value).
