Does Effexor XR work for social anxiety?

Posted by rianny on April 15, 2004, at 2:33:29

Hi.
I have to tried Paxil, Celexa, and Luvox for social anxiety. None of them really worked. Celexa actually changed my personality and gave me "I don't care" attitude. There was no real emotion and no real happiness on Celexa (you would know what I mean when I say this if you've been on SSRI's). Paxil was quite sedating, and I experienced irritability, sexual dysfunction, and dryness of whole body. Luvox - I haven't taken them for too long but it did not help at all while I was on it. So basically all SSRI's I have tried failed.

I read that Nardil is the most effective one for social phobia? It's difficult for me to take Nardil because of its food interaction.

So, I wonder if anyone here has any benefit from Effexor XR for social anxiety. I might also have GAD. I keep getting this racing thoughts. I'm taking very low dos of Klonopin alone, and it DOES make me feel depressed. It doesn't make me social so I don't think Klonopin alone is effective enough.
