Fear of weight gain with Stopping Adderall

Posted by corine parlee on March 12, 2004, at 11:51:25

I am in remission from bulimia and excercise bulimia and have been for seven years. I was treated for this eating disorder seven years ago, and while in treatment, my psychiatrist discovered that I had ADD innattentive type. I was placed on Adderall (10 mg taken 2 or 3 times per day). I also take 300 mg of Wellbutrin. I have been on this dose (and this same combination of medications) now for 4 years and it has helped (I am now in Graduate school and doing well), but I would like to see what life is like without it... but I am DREADFULLY afraid of gaining weight. I read that Adderall increases the metabolism, and I am afraid if I stop taking it, my metabolism will drop, and I will gain a lot of weight. I am currently at a very normal body weight for my height. I just don't want to have to rely on this medication for the rest of my life, as I eventually want to have children, and must do so in the next couple of years otherwise I will miss my biological window of oppurtunity (I am now 34). I want to do my own research before talking to my doctor about it. Can anyone who is knowlegable about this give me some guidance?
