I found Wellbutrin helped a great deal with anhedonia and lack of energy, not so much with primary depression. However, I also get a lot of anxiety/agitation and insomnia with it - I can only handle 75-100 mg a day without a fair whack of benzo's to compensate. At 300 mg/day, plus some GABA-type tranquilizers, I felt great but (my family assure me) was on the edge of classic mania.

YMMV - I think I am abnormally sensitive to any degree of NE stimulation, probably also fitting the new BP3 diagnosis. Many people find the activation tolerable, even pleasant, and at least one person commented here a while back that the agitation and insomnia side effects go away after a month or two, leaving just the "good" effects. I was only on it a 2-3 months, but I was also periodically self-medicating with this and that, which confused the picture.
