> hey everyone, i need some advice re: sleeping meds. i've had problems sleeping for over a year now, and i think i've tried most of the possible solutions out there. my pdoc and i are at a loss as to what to try now. last year, i took trazodone, which worked ok, but it left me with a hangover the next day. zyprexa has put me to sleep well, but it also leaves me really sleepy the next day. i was on klonopin + ambien for months and it worked great! i wish i could still be on it, but the ambien started to make me hallucinate, so i'm not supposed to take it anymore. i tried sonata, but it didn't do much for me at all. i just tried a trial of restoril, and it would take me over an hour to fall asleep, and i had trouble waking up. i also take 1mg of haldol at night, no matter what else i'm taking. any suggestions? my pdoc won't prescribe barbiturates or halcion, but i think he's pretty open to anything else. are there any other meds/combinations that i'm missing that have helped other people? thanks so much!!!

You didn't mention trying any of the sedating tricyclics. I can't recommend amitriptyline, as my feeling is that this has excessive and brutal side effects, but doxepin and trimipramine (Surmontil) are both very sedating and should not be as anticholinergic in actual use as imipramine and amitriptyline are. In a non-tricyclic, there is also Remeron, which is extremely sedating.Todd
