I have had a mood disorder pretty much all my life, and I don't think it is bipolar--more like depression with severe anxiety and obsessive thoughts. I recently read an article about abnormalities found in the myelination of brains (post-mortem) of people who had schizophrenia and bipolar. Well, I had a few MRIs a couple of years ago ordered by my physician to see whether I had a pituatary adenoma. The result---nothing wrong with my pituatary but I was probably in the begining stages of Multiple Sclerosis because of several pronounced areas of demyelination in my brain. Two years later and no MS, but still lots of mood problems, that are more or less successfully controlled with meds. My question is whether any of you have had similar MRI results AND whether the demyelination is caused by the mood disorder or the meds used to treat the mood disorder. It scares me to think of my brain being destroyed by the meds used for the purpose of repairing it.
