Help with drug costs in US / cheaper pharmacies??

I'm here on behalf of a friend.. and want to make it clear I am *not* asking for any advice on how to get drugs illegally, or without a prescription.
But the costs of his elderly parents healthcare - they are on many tabelts a day, and simply cannot afford this. My friend has managed to get generic of most drugs, but is having problems sourcing its generic in the US. the drug is generic proscar - finasteride.
Also, does anyone know who they would have to contact to try and get help with the med costs?? I know some companies do schemes for reduced costs for some.. How could my friend find out about these??
