OK, so there are waits.. but the doctors are the same the world over. I've seen some bad psychiatrists, but the one I have now is wonderful.. and he's a good old NHS one.
As for Mental Health professionals treating their clients badly.. well, I got off my bum and am trying to do something about this. I have become a "Service User Consultant".. I am involved with training staff in how it feels to be a service user... from GP receptionists, up to Psychiatric Consultants.. I'm a government committee with regards the new Personality Disorder training framework, and also one for "dishing" out the money coming from this in London. In a week I am spending the day with Mental Health in the community diploma students to give them the service user point of view.
Things are starting to change.. But now that the Government supports service user involvement at all levels, I hope things will be changing much faster. Its just been so under funded, and that isn't going to be changing.. But with people out there fighting for the change, I do believe things will get better for us.
