Will Effexor be the answer??

Posted by john atl on October 10, 2003, at 18:36:15

I have been on Zoloft, 100mg qd, and Klonopin 1mg qd, for 5 plus years to control social anxiety. This combo has worked well for anxiety but I started having some depression. Increasing the Zoloft dose(125 mg) made the sexual AE's intolerable. We tried adding Wellbutrin SR, but no improvement. Dropped back to 100mg of Zoloft and sexual AE's still continued. Finally tappered off Zoloft, cut Klonopin to .5mg qd and switched to Remeron 15 mg qd. I can live with the sedation but not the dizziness, mental confusion and ringing in my ears. Been at this dose for 3 weeks. Doc said we may stop the Remeron and try Effexor XR at low doses. I hate to give up on Remeron(since it has the right properties for anxiety, depression, lack of sexual AE's) but the other side effects are wearing me down). Will the Remeron AE's get better with time? Can I expect Effexor XR to have less sexual AE's than Zoloft with better depression control?
