any experience here?!?!
Ok!... Im back my son went to the neurologist today, he wants to up his topamax to 200mg slowly and decrease the depakote to nada! he wants me to give him 5mg of zyprexa in the morning and 5mg of zyprexa at night. His Psych says (he has never used topamax alone) I am concerned! but he had this "episode" today like a 30 minute long severe aggressive , agitated episode, he has had them before but they are usually much longer, He got up early enough today (zyprexa didnt make him sleep last 2 days his normal 12 hours on zyprexa) so I am concered!
I am a little concerned about taking the depakote completely out especially when i heard "its not really good for mania tho, just as a mood stabilizer" ugh! He does need the weight loss, but just topamax and zyprexa? i guess its worth a try. I am really trying to figure out my sons illness here and I been reading alot about neurontin lately, being both a mood stablizer, and being used to treat restless leg syndrome, he has this for sure (even with out meds) especially in the evening. His neuro ordered a sleep study, I am not sure if for the restless leg, but he wants to check him for sleep apnea as well, cause he snores so damn loud and on and off all nite ... He said that when people dont get enough REM sleep it affects the neurotransmitters and dopamine and seratonin levels or something to that effect, his Psych wants the neuro to call him, but I am wondering based on how he is if neurontin would help him!. I also am like completed confused on this zyprexa weight gain, I been also reading alot lately about Seroquel, but here is the thing that confuses me.. Seroquel is supposed to be the number 1 DIABETES LEADER or so that august report says based on a study, risperdal being second and zyprexa third good for lilly, but why then did the FDA just want to tag zyprexa at first and not seroquel, lilly got their way with tagged diabetes warnings on all the atypicals. I have read alot of people dont gain weight with seroquel, so to find they are the leader in diabetes in one study is "weird to me" and risperdal is not as bad as zyprexa for weight gain for most, and it is number 2. Is this all true or does Lilly have that much money and pull? I wondered how my son might do on seroquel cause I read alot dont gain weight on it, and I also read that seroquel caused little or no weight gain in children. Zyprexa (and this is bad for us) most of the problems were in adolescents and males at that in the 13-17 year old category and we are right there in the high risk category! which makes me nervous! I already read a post on another board in which this guy said he had like diabetes diagnosis after taking seroquel, then he went to see how his glucose was handled (some other test) and it was handled ok, so their only reasoning was that he just "got diabetes" recently all of a sudden..Anyone have any input on all this!
I AM LOSING MY MIND!
so for now!? topamax and zyprexa? and weaning off the depakote?
Maybe neurontin?? maybe seroquel?
your thoughts!!
THANKS!!!!!!!!!
