I am new to this board and looking for info. I think I may be experiencing zoloft-induced akathisia. Please bear with me if you can because I would appreciate any info.
After five years on zoloft I suddenly started to get a rash on my chest. The doctor didnt know what it was and said it was possible it could be the zoloft even though I'd had no problem until then. Then I experienced what was probably my first experience of akathisia. The doctors decided it was a panic attack but I am not so sure. The psych at the hospital at the time told me I should immediately wean off the zoloft but never said if the zoloft was the cause of the panic attack/akathisia. Has anybody heard of developing an allergy to zoloft five years after first use and could akathisia be a further symptom?
I have since had cbt and educated myself on panic attacks and am sure this is not what I am experiencing.
The attacks start and peak 4-6 hours later and probably last eight hours all up. I look more like I'm having a seizure. They are so uncomfortable that if I dont take xanax (0.5mg-1.5mg)I become desperate and suicidal. I do not have panic disorder where the patient avoids places and situations.
They occur everyday from about four days before my period to four days after every month. They have slowly gotten better each month since the first cluster about a year ago.
I have also noticed since the first attack, sensitivity to light, sound, cosmetics, general dizzyness and nausea, feeling of pressure or fullness in my ears, irratable bowel, sensitivity to fizzy drinks, spicy foods and sugary things.
It's like my system has gone haywire!
Could all this be a delayed reaction to the zoloft?
Any info and eperiences please!
