My best advice, go to xyrem.com and call the number, they can send you info you can give your doctor, and have your doc call their pharmacist.
Nembutal? I would assume that would interrupt your sleep cycle, causing you to feel less refreshed... Ambien is the only med that doesn't interrupt the sleep cycle, but it also is weak at getting you to sleep and staying in your bloodstream long enough.
I've spent 6 months seeing doctors, neurologists, pulmonary specialist, psychiatrists, all working together to get me treated. I'm about to try CPAP, you may want to look at that, to help my treatment.
You need lots of documentation, tests, before docs are comfortable giving you drugs like Xyrem or Nembutal. MSLTs, PSGs, sleep-deprived EEGs, titration studies, I've had four. No one questions you need treatment when the results come positive from these tests.
