Re: lexapro and celexa differences

I used to be on Celexa (citalopram), and then switched to Lexapro when it came out about a year a go.

First of all, you said that you needed to raise the dose of Celexa. That's not a bad thing. I kept raising it until I was taking 60 mg of Celexa and it worked great. Don't be afraid of raising your dosage.

I personally like Lexapro a little more than Celexa. They both pretty much eliminated my severe anxiety and depression (at an adequate dose). But I feel a bit more alert on Lexapro. The starting dose for Lexapro is 10 mg but I have been on 20 ever since I started on it 12 months a go. Also, the sexual side effects for me are less on Lexapro.

> The very first ssri I was placed on was citalopram and now after trying all the others I'm pretty much convinced that it is still the best one for me, it has the less side effects, but I had to keep taking larger doses for to it to keep working. I am now considering starting it again but am not sure which one to take, the lexapro or the celexa? I would like to hear what others have to say on the differences experienced between citalopram and the new escitalopram. Is there much of a difference between the two?
