About a month ago I started a high-calorie, high-protein diet along with an exercise regimen. I also started, about 18 days ago, taking anabolic steroids – 100 mg of Deca Durabolin (nandrolone decanoate) and Sustanon 100 (blends of testosterone) – to fortify and accelerate my gains. The thing is, instead of feeling markedly better as a result of the testosterone, I’ve been feeling increasingly emotional and generally “blue” over the last 10 days or so. I’m wondering if this is transient, or a result of the sleep meds, or something to do with the anabolics. Any input – especially from people who have concurrently taken (a) antidepressants with anabolic agents, and (b) Effexor and Ambien/Sonata – would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Kreedi -- I find myself in a similar position to yours, although I am not taking steroids. I'm very interested in the topic, however, and have done some reading about it. I've read that testosterone replacement for individuals who have suboptimal testosterone levels can act as an antidepressant itself. But it's significant here that the replacement is only designed to bring you up to 'normal' testosterone levels and administration via the patch or gel is supposed to mimic the natural daily fluctuations of the hormone in your body.Anabolic steroids, however, are designed to get you to way-above normal levels. Since you are injecting, you are also probably having irregularly fluctuating testosterone levels. As I understand it, anabolics used this way can cause greatly varying effects on mood - some get angry, some get blue, some may feel better, some may be almost manic.
I'm sure you know more about this then I do, but does the aromatizability of a steroid have any bearing on mood? Are the anabolics you are using aromatizing ? If so, are you doing something about that issue ?
I'm very interested to see what other responses you get.
thanks
