On paper, Effexor probably makes the most sense to start with. It hits all three monoamine targets: serotonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine. It is most like an MAOI in this regard. Effexor has been approved for use in both depression and generalized anxiety disorder (GAD). In addition, it is now being investigated as a treatment for OCD. Preliminary open trials have yielded positive results.
