Does anyone know what the status of the Selegeline patch is? Any updates?
Is this the qualitatively different option I've been waiting for? My meds work, and I tolerate the side effects, but they do bother me. I bear them because I know I have a severe form of depression and this combo is the best I've found to treat the depression. I take 225 Effexor XR, 30 Adderall XR, 500 Serzone, plus thyroids, supplements, etc. Side effects are activation, muscle tension, akithisia, bladder problems, etc. I've always felt like this is 'good enough' for now, a holding pattern until something new and different comes along.
I had heard that selegeline helps with atypical depression, but I hadn't wanted to deal with the MAOI diet. So, the idea of the patch delivery is interesting to me.
Changing meds would be a big and risky undertaking for me, I believe. Potentially destabilizing myself doesn't seem appealing. But if there is something that has real posibilities, I would consider it.
From reading the archives, my understanding is that cautions with Selegeline would be not to take any ssri's, effexor, etc., or dextromethorphan (sp.) which I think is cough suppressant? And that with the patch, the dietary issues wouldn't exist. Are there other side effects to look out for? If selegeline doesn't fully address the depression, what can be used with it to augment safely?
Is its release on the market coming anytime soon?
Thanks.
